Instant Lifestyles

Wouldn’t it be so easy to just wake up and instantly have everything you have ever wanted? Or one day instantly become famous, rich, or powerful. If you didn’t notice, the key word I emphasized on in my question is the word “instant.” The more time passes the more it seems like people want instant lifestyle changes and with the way things are, who can blame them. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, look at how many people want to be the next model, singer/rapper, actor, or just famous. With all these new platforms is has become easier to be noticed by having an Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, or Sound Cloud. It’s true! These platforms have allowed us to post, share or like content that can make someone a “Star” so to speak. What most people have forgotten is that most of these people who have made it using these platforms have dedicated countless hours, made many sacrifices, and overcame obstacles time and time again. Not just that, but in addition they spend time outside of those platforms putting ideas in motion to be recognized. Yes, I know that some people have been lucky and made it big without trying, but in most cases it involves hard work. Technology has also made it so much easier to get yourself out there but at the same time it doesn’t mean we should expect an instant lifestyle change off one post. Let’s be honest here, whenever something crazy or interesting happens what is the first thing most people do these days? They pull out their phones or cameras and start recording thinking “this is going to go viral.” With the new day and age we are being tricked into the idea that becoming influential on these platforms is easy. Take it from me or any other person who has a blog, podcast, YouTube channel or so forth…doing this is a commitment that requires a lot of time and work. As a kid, I was brought up with the mentality that I need to work for what I want. Now as an adult I see that it is even more crucial to work for what you want as most things in life don’t come easy. We are so accustomed to follow the lives of some “celebrities” and their lavish lifestyles. This action in turn makes us want to reach the status that they have without knowing what it took to get there. There are a few celebrities who don’t flaunt what they have; instead they try encouraging us to work hard even after we have reached our goals. So, if you are someone who is on the fence about wanting to start a social media account to be influential, just know that this isn’t me trying to discourage you. On the contrary, I want you to succeed, I want you to make a difference but at the same time this is me trying to inform you that it’s not just going to come overnight. If you don’t believe me, go on google and search how to become a blogger, artist, singer or anything else you want to be and you’ll probably be directed to pages or videos of how to do it. Once you’re on these pages most of these people will tell you that it took years to even begin to have a following. This also just doesn’t apply to getting known through social media, but also in other lifestyle changes such as weight loss, or environmental. You can’t expect to eat one salad and drop 20 pounds (9Kg), or recycle a bottle and expect the world to be saved. As I mention in my initial post, we need to learn to be patient and that things take time. We can all have the lifestyle we want to live, but the real question is, are you willing to put in the work to get there? You can’t just say you want it, instead do what it takes to get it. With that said, as always don’t forget to live, love and laugh.
